The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund
Chanie Wenjack was an Anishinaabe boy born in Ogoki Post on the Marten Falls Reserve on January 19, 1954. Chanie's story, tragically, is like so many stories of Indigenous children in this country, he fell victim to Canada's colonization of Indigenous Peoples.
ABOUT THE GORD DOWNIE & CHANIE WENJACK FUND
Inspired by Chanie’s story, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) was founded by both families in 2016 to create cultural understanding and a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Their organization strives to build awareness, education, and connection through programs like Legacy Schools, which provides free resources for educators across the country.
